When you’re planning a day out with the family, there’s nothing better than a trip to the museum. Luckily for us, there are some great museums located just a short drive from Tony Honda. Here are three of the best museums near Waipahu, HI that have something for everyone.

Three of the Best Museums in Driving Distance of Waipahu, HI

Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum

Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum is dedicated to telling the story of American military aviation from World War II onwards. The museum is located on Ford Island in the center of Pearl Harbor, which is an active military base. To get there, you’ll need to take one of the shuttle buses from the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center that depart every 15 minutes. The museum is huge and spreads over two aircraft hangars.
Our favorite part of the museum is the chance to see a number of beautifully preserved military airplanes. These historic flying machines include a Mitsubishi A6M Zero, a Nakajima B5N, and the huge Boeing N2S-3 Stearman. For an exciting thrill ride, why not try the Fighter Ace 360 Flight Simulators? The Pearl Harbor Visitor Center is found at 1 Arizona Memorial Place.

Hawaii’s Plantation Village

Hawaii’s Plantation Village is an outdoor museum that describes the history of Hawaii’s sugar plantations between 1850 and 1950. The indoor section of the museum has many interesting exhibits, which show how generations of people from various countries came to work on the sugar plantations. However, the best part of the visit for us was looking around the plantation village itself.
There are over 25 houses that shed light on how immigrant laborers lived their lives, containing authentic furniture, clothing, and art. You can also explore the infirmary, bathhouse, and plantation store. As part of the experience, you can sample a selection of delicious fruits from many different countries. Hawaii’s Plantation Village is at 94-965 Waipahu Street.

Battleship Missouri Memorial

The USS Battleship Missouri Memorial is a museum ship that is open to members of the public. The USS Missouri (BB-63) is an Iowa-class battleship that was commissioned in June 1944, and first saw action in the Pacific Theater in World War II. She later took part in the Korean War, and after being reactivated in 1984, she took part in Operation Desert Storm.
We love the way that you have access to so many different areas of the ship, and it’s impossible not to feel a sense of awe at the sheer size of the vessel. The ship is full of history, and you can take the 35-minute guided tour to learn more from the expert tour guides, or just explore the gigantic ship on your own. The Battleship Missouri Memorial is based at 63 Cowpens Street.
